The last three songs make up "The Suffering" trilogy.
This album is based on the story of Todd McFarlane's Spawn comic book.
Although Dave Abell recorded all the bass tracks for this album before leaving the band, Keith Menser's picture is featured on the back cover and in the liner
notes (although Abell recieves credit as the bassist). This is because Keith was intended to help the band on tour, and Century Media demanded the touring lineup
on the back cover. However, Keith did not know any of the songs on the touring setlist, so he was forced to leave. James MacDonough and Brent Smedley ended up
playing bass and drums, respectively, on the following two tours.
Kate Barlow (Matt Barlow's sister) performs the angelic vocals on the song 'A Question of Heaven'.

Songs from Iced Earth's first two albums with Matt Barlow on vocals. There are also songs from the Enter the Realm demo and from their first trip into a studio
with reworked bass and drum parts. The tracks from Burnt Offerings are remastered, except for "Dante's Inferno" which is completely remixed. "Burnt
Offerings" also has a different intro than the original version.
"Cast In Stone" is "Written On the Walls" from the self-titled album with new
lyrics written by Matt Barlow. This was done to avoid royalty issues with Gene
Adam, who wrote the original lyrics.
Purgatory (the demonic woman on the album cover) is a character from Chaos
Comics, who worked out an advertising deal with Century Media.
